It’s Best that you install this mod with Nexus Mod Manager

Introduction

All levels of experience are welcome! Don"t hesitate to ask.

Greetings to all! I"m an artisan of character creation with experience throughout a variety of games, yet none has been as good to me as Skyrim and its modding community. I"ll try to teach you all that I know in this guide following the sections. Please enjoy and don"t stress the learning curve, it"s worth it!

1. First Requirements

1. First Requirements

Before we get started i urge you to make an account over at Nexusmods . Simply because most Skyrim mods are downloaded there.

If you don"t know how to install mods to begin with I recommend: Mod Organizer by Tannin

With this mod you"ll make things easier later for installing and uninstalling mods as if switching between them without having to overwrite and install over and over again, very useful for skin textures and the other mods we"ll make use of.

Then you"ll need this widely used mod: SKSE
Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE) by The SKSE Team http://store.steampowered.com/app/365720/

SKSE is the base for many mods and in this guide you"ll need it. Setting it up can be difficult if you"re new to Skyrim modding so please check the SKSE page for info on that, once it"s up and running it"s no harder than pushing the (now newly designated) launch button as usual.

Now you can download an overhaul mod for the character creation screen:
1. Enhanced Character Edit (ECE) by ECE team
2. RaceMenu (RM) by Expired

Please go ahead and download and endorse both. Without these two mods this guide would not exist as the character creation in vanilla Skyrim is beyond awful. These mods are both amazing and have their pros and cons, i use both. But you can"t have them both installed at the same time so i switch between them depending on the need while still being able to edit the same character, more on that in a later section.

2. Skin texture

2. Skin texture

Why would you want to create a character with pixelated skin? No! Before we get started on using the character creation screen we"ll go through the beautyfying mods for that precious skin and figure.

We"ll want to install skin textures now so let"s go through how to get that. It"s quite easy to install, the popular skin texture mods will even come with an installer.

I"ll get you started, try applying the skin texture mods that i use:

For realism:

For a porcelain skin:

For that cartoon look:

These skin texture mods cover the body and the face, some of them also include makeup tints for her face. Please experiment to find your favorite!

Sometimes i switch skin texture for different characters or to match my ENB and theme of the environment. When you install lighting mods it might be worth it to keep slight in mind that the brigthness of your skin textures so that you don"t get over-saturated by light sources or too dark to make out. It"s not a problem to reinstall and switch whenever mid-save.

Just keep in mind what resolution your PC can handle. The quality of these textures can get up to 4K HD and higher as our lovely modding community closely follows the very latest developments and implements it into the world but if that"s graphically too demanding you can use a compressed version that"s typically available in the download section or FOMOD installer of the mod.

3. Body meshes, skeleton and HDT

3. Body meshes and skeleton

-Body meshes-
The Skyrim modding community seem to have developed a fetish for nudity and so there is alot to choose between here. To make it simple i will only recommend to you the body mod that i use. With the mods that i"ll go through you can edit not only the face but even edit the body in character creation. More about that later. Let"s download for now.

I use BodySlide, with it you can create your own body, share your bodyslide preset and make it easier to convert outfits to fit your body shape. Or you can simply download a preset that someone else made and build it. (I"ll link you later to one that i made.)

Download,

The bodies made here are HDT-compatible.

-Skeleton-
Modding the skeleton can be tricky and it"s given me issues before. But install it just as described and it shouldn"t pose a problem.

You"ll need a skeleton for compatibility with a bunch of mods. And it can also be used to change the shape of the body in a way that the body meshes can"t.

When you open the installer for XPMSE there"ll be alot of options, just check the stuff you understand and leave the other stuff alone.

You"ll need a skeleton for the lady parts aswell as for some other mods that rely on it to get HDT.

HDT-
For HDT to work fully you"ll need the above and finally this.
HDT-PE provides the basis for physics to give movement to whatever is affected,

4. Basic sliders

4. Basic sliders

Recall the first time you opened up the character creation in vanilla Skyrim.

I"ll mention some basics of the character creation in it"s vanilla form and things that will carry over even to the overhaul.

The use of sliders!
Sliders is the primary tool that we use to edit and create with. They"re fun and simple! Some sliders directly shape the intended part of which the slider"s name points to while some sliders just apply premade shapes that you can choose, also some sliders apply color rather than shape. In other words it"s quite limited but because of that also useful, i guess. With plugins we will later add many, many more sliders.

The categories.
When you start up the character creation menu you will find yourself able to choose between categories of what the sliders are for. You can freely go from left and right and edit the sliders within these categories as you like.

The categories are in order: Race, Body, Head, Face, Eyes, Brow, Mouth, Hair. You get additional sliders and categories with the character creation menu overhaul and other mods.
Though there are many sliders to use within these categories i"ll just mention the prominent ones in each.

In the Body category we have the gender, presets, skin tone and weight slider. Originally the weight slider was the only slider we had to edit our body with, it goes from 0-100 and depending on the body meshes installed the effect will vary greatly.

In the Head category you get a few sliders for facial details such as complexion, dirt, scars, war paint and their details. They are usually best left set to zero value though. With an overhaul mod you"ll gain more useful sliders that can affect not just the skin surface but also shape.

In the Face category we can create a distinct frame for the facial features of a character. Edit the nose, jaw, cheek, cheekbone from all kinds of angles.

In the Eyes category it"s just that. Edit the area around the eye and the pupils and so on. With plugins you can add a huge amount of eye colors. I recommend,

In the Brow category we pretty much edit the area above the eyes, choose an eyebrow with the important brow type slider and then edit that as well as forehead with an array of sliders. The brow types can be extended with plugins. For example,

In the Mouth category you work closely with the Face sliders as there aren"t just mouth but also chin sliders there. The mouth shape slider will give you a basic shape to edit by using the height and width sliders and more.

In the Hair category you just choose hairstyle and hair color. This is a very popular slider and you could literally add thousands of hairstyles with the hair plugins. Sadly we can"t edit the shape in-game like in Black Desert though. But try this,

Character creation in vanilla Skyrim is basically a slider-fest with little good content to edit from.

4.5.
Features of the character creation overhaul
I"ll let the mod pages of each describe what it is that they bring to the table, except for the highlights. And i"ll also go through the crucial differences between Enhanced Character Edit and RaceMenu.

With Enhanced Character Edit and RaceMenu you get,
A preset system so you can save, share and load a character without doing that through loading a savegame. Many new sliders. Better makeup and color. Better interface, built in lighting and neat navigation (especially in ECE!), plugins for editing body and best of all the VertexEdit and 3D Sculpt feature.

Those are some of the things equally found in both, but now i"ll write up the differing points of Enhanced Character Edit and RaceMenu. What do they not have in common?

Enhanced Character Edit has VertexEdit which is an exceptional, professional-like feature for editing the facial shape.

RaceMenu provides an intricate preset system with naming and easy sharing and it also offers more types of plugins like for tattoos and room for new scripts and modding.

They do not place their sliders in the same categories, but the amount of sliders are pretty equal. For an example you"ll find that Enhanced Character Edit have new categories for new and old sliders while RaceMenu instead put the new sliders under established categories.

When you choose between Enhanced Character Edit and RaceMenu you should go for 1, which mod offers most of the functions that you want and 2, go after feel, use the one that feels the best to navigate, edit and create in.

5. Body Scales & CBBE/UUNP Morph

5. Body Scales & CBBE/UUNP Morph

Did you also notice something peculiar in the above section? The sliders that we just went through, except for gender and weight, has absolutely nothing to do with the body. So let"s change that by installing plugins that add sliders for the body!

BodySlide also comes with a plugin they call CBBE/UUNP Morph for RaceMenu. With it you don"t have to open up BodySlide externally to use the body sliders, as long as you have RaceMenu and the required femalebody.TRI files you can open it up in-game! For details on how to install or use it i ask that you look at the mod page for BodySlide. This only works for female characters. This is not compatible with Enhanced Character Edit.

XPMSE also also comes with a plugin called Body Scales. Here you can edit your characters skeleton in the game. With that you can change height, hand size, leg length, weapon placement and much more. This is definitely the more useful of the two, it"s also less perverted and editing the skeleton externally is more difficult since it would require skill with nifskope. This time Enhanced Character Edit is the better of the two since it already has it"s own sliders for editing skeleton even without the Body Scales plugin, they will show up in the Body category as long as you have the skeleton installed on your character that is.

In addition, there is a mod that adds more body sliders in Enhanced Character Edit:

You can get a smoking hot body like hers.

I am using my personal skeleton that narrows shoulders and body meshes with thick thighs that i made in BodySlide, and an outfit that is converted to that shape in Outfit Studio. (Thanks to my friend Effie for the outfit conversion!)

6. Sliders and more

6. Sliders and more
At the heart of this guide.

Important,
So you have downloaded Enhanced Character Edit and RaceMenu and installed one of them. When you go for a new game the character creation screen will pop up for you. But you can also bring it up whenever you want by typing "showracemenu", without the quotes, in the console. Naturally i do this all the time so it"s really important. To bring up the console you press the § button (by default mapping).

Caution,
If you change race in the middle of a playthrough your stats and skills can be messed with, but if you just edit your characters appearance without touching the race it"s no problem. If you really want to change race though you can use a fix like this,

Getting started.
If you do not feel that the vanilla characters are an inspiration to edit from you can load and edit from a character made by another player by using the preset system in either overhaul. Be aware it is not the same as the preset slider that come with vanilla. You could also download a custom race since the good ones come with presets too, those presets are loaded with the vanilla preset slider. Confusing at first i know. As long as you"re aware there are basically three methods to load, but only two ways to save a character preset you"re good. To find a preset you like please search the community, be it Nexusmods or any other website. I also have presets that I"ll share with you at the bottom of the guide. After you download the files they need to be placed in the correct folder, and then you can load them and use the sliders from there.

ECE
To install a preset for Enhanced Character Edit it has to be done manually in, documents/my games/skyrim/cme_save, in there we find the presets and they go from 1-50 and will look something like this: _38_commonTriRaces.slot

This is a few steps ahead but when you have created your character you can also export the CharGen of your character so that you can load what you have created in Enhanced Character Edit in RaceMenu. The exported CharGen will end up in skyrim/skse/plugins/chargen

RM
To install a preset for RaceMenu it"s, skyrim/skse/plugins/chargen, in there we"ll place the .dds and .nif files so that you can load them in the 3D Sculpt tab, further in the /presets folder we place .jslot files which you load in the presets tab. This can be easily installed for you with an installer since the folders that RaceMenu make use of all are located in the Skyrim root folder.

Now we edit the preset that we have loaded and unleash our creativity! Or, just load and play if we happen to think that the other player created the perfect character for you already. Please don"t forget to endorse the author either way.

6.5. VertexEdit/3D Sculpt

6.5. VertexEdit/3D Sculpt

VertexEdit is part of Enhanced Character Edit, and it"s amazing!!! Without it i would not be able to create my characters. I use this, together with the very good camera to go close to the face, to create high quality facial shapes.

3D Sculpt is a feature in RaceMenu. It"s something, but it"s difficult to control. What makes it great is that you can not only export (a.k.a. save) CharGen, but also import (a.k.a. load) them!

Using 3D Sculpt to import a CharGen is the only way to carry over a character from Enhanced Character Edit so you can keep on editing her in there instead. There are some things to think about though. Gratefully, this will ignore race so even if you use a different race than what they were saved with when you load the face she will look the same, which is not the case when you load a character through the preset system. Unfortunately you must beware, you must set the weight to be the same as the value you had when you exported the CharGen, otherwise it will cause clipping by the bottom of the neck when you import.

7. Plugins

Plugins are constantly made for Enhanced Character Edit and RaceMenu. They include new war paints a.k.a. tattoos, hair styles, eye colors, or even new sliders and so on. There is much to download and support across the modding community so before you customize your character, let"s customize the very tool with which you"ll create that character in!

Remember that unlike skin textures and body meshes these mods are not applied directly to your character but become available in the character creation screen where you can apply them with the sliders.

Addons-
I don"t use this myself but, to enhance the Enhanced Character Edit further you might want to look into,

List of plugins:

Hair, eyes, eyebrows.
There are so many plugins for these so i"ll recommend that you please browze the community and find your own favorites. It will take time to do, but it"s one of the most fun parts of this process so that"s a good thing! If you want a pair of my favorites, see the recommendations i left in section 4. Basic sliders

War paints & tattoos
Tattoos are only available in RaceMenu. War Paints are available in both. It"s a matter of what framework the modder decided to implement the content with. Try downloading and installing this plugin for either ECE or RM, they are very user-friendly at this mod page so i"ll let you at it,

Fixes-
You might also want to fix certain things with these mods,

8. Technical

I"ll go through many small issues that i met with during creation as a newbie. I would always make things into a big deal and try to solve them by doing wrong things since i had no idea what was happening. This is for you not to end up in the same situation.

The Enhanced Character Edit presets can not be named as the RaceMenu presets can. So you"ll have to remember which number you saved your character too, it is quite annoying in comparison honestly. To save a preset in ECE you exit the character creation screen, and on the way you"ll be asked if you want to save the preset or not. You can make sure that the slot you want to save to is not occupied by tabbing out of the game and checking the folder where it saves to. You can also choose "No Save" if you"re unsure and want to create a savegame first so you"ll have something to load your character with.

You load a ECE preset by using the slider called Slot Load located in the body category, it"s just under the Presets slider. Coincidentally the Presets slider is for loading a preset through the vanilla preset slots, as i may have mentioned there are a few mods that add their presets there instead so it"s good to keep that in mind, custom race presets are always loaded there too.

When you export the CharGen with F1 ECE will generate two files named after the character and it"ll look something like this: Name.nif and Name.dds. in skse/plugins/chargen

As with any file, you can change the name of a preset outside of the game as long as you keep the extension at the end. You save a preset in the presets tab with the F5 button where you get to name the preset itself, pressing enter to save it. You can also click on an already existing preset in that menu to overwrite it. But that"s where you need to be careful, this might just be me being clusmy but... Be careful not to have your mouse hover over a preset while you"re typing your name, if you hover over anything it will write itself into line where you write the name, effectively overwriting that preset even if you moved your mouse elsewhere before pressing enter. So annoying. You load in the same tab with the F9 button and you click on a preset in the list to load.

Wether to load character through CharGen or preset?

A CharGen is information on the meshes from the top of the head down to the neck. When exported It will not include slider edits or color/tints, plugin info such as tattoos or body edits and so on and then when imported it will also ignore current settings of the sliders, so if you have for example the cheeks slider put at full to any direction you wouldn"t be able to pull it any more to that direction, even though loading the CharGen totally overwrited whatever that slider had just done. You get it.

A preset implements the slider values that are saved to it, including sliders added by plugins if you have them installed when loading. So if you use a plugin for a preset that you now have uninstalled it may provide with some side effects, easily distinguished by your body or face becoming purple if you uninstalled a war paint/tattoo plugin that is applied to that preset. A preset does not save the race and gender so you need to set them correctly one before loading. Loading a preset does not alter or include extraterrestial factors such as the head mesh, body meshes, skin textures etc.

Personally I always save not just the preset but also the CharGen of my character when i have edited the face/head shape sliders since last save. If you only edited the color sliders it"s fine to only save that edit as a preset.

The weight slider.

The weight slider go from 0-100 and is generally meant to give variation to the characters body. But be aware that it will also affect the neck size and top clavicles of the character where they connect. Since the neck is part of the head (CharGen) and the clavicles is part of the body it means that when exporting a CharGen it"s best to note down what value the weight slider is set to when you export, because if you import the CharGen with the slider at a different value then the body and head won"t match, and you will get a neck gap. So really, make very sure that when you import a CharGen the weight slider is put at the same value that it was exported with.

Depending on the body mod you use the weight slider can give amazing variation, or none at all. You should decide what body mod to use and wether to go for a standard weight that you always use for all your characters, just as to ignore the weight slider to make the neck gap problem easier to avoid. Or do like me, I personally use the weight slider in different weights for each character since my body meshes has great variation and it"s easy to change my look from slim to curvy very quickly. Thing is though, I write down what weight i have at time of export on the name of the CharGen so i"d recommend that.

Racial traits.

It"s easier to keep using one race for each character, and that"s because each race has it"s own head meshes.

Each race have the same body meshes by default, but the Bethesda seem to have thought it a good idea to give them unique head meshes so that they can attain their own heads, long chins for the Elves or rounder cheeks for Bretons and so on. Why didn"t they just use their own loved sliders? Oh well. As you may know, when you use sliders you simply modify the code on how to change the head meshes, so if you change race and in the process switch, or if you even replace the head meshes of that one or all races then it will look different since the very thing that you are editing/creating from have changed.

But as i learned from my mistakes, switching a race while editing a character and also keeping their appearance the same is possible. Just export CharGen before you switch race from whatever race it is you started editing from, then import that over when you"ve switched race!

In reference to CharGen in comparison to head meshes, in practical use importing a CharGen is alike if you replace the head meshes and much of what it implies but only for that one character that you are editing.

Modding the head meshes.

Not only the races have unique head meshes, the modding community also have some. You can replace the head meshes of a/the vanilla races or do it on a custom race. You can change the facial appearance of all NPC"s, perhaps use one that has higher quality meshes. But i don"t touch these things. For simplicity and compatibility with the community i recommend you stick with the vanilla head mesh for the vanilla races. For custom races it"s common that they have their original own, so if you really wanted to play around with it i recommend modding a custom race.

Practice on custom races.

When I got started, before i had learned how to install body meshes, skeleton, skin textures and such, I would edit the presets from various custom races. They include their own folders for all of that content, as well as some extras like additional body features such as horns or wings, and so much more. So i didn"t need to have any knowledge about that and could just jump into character creation on custom races, but now i do and hopefully you do too with a little help from this guide.

You can mod these parts of a custom race all you want without applying that to the PC, NPC"s or vanilla content of the game. However some plugins are not compatible with custom races, some patch it so they are, in the long run they"re fun for their abilities and whatnot but visually I"m staying with a vanilla race. Personally i use Nord and Wood Elf.

Getting a unique body for your PC and not having them be applied to all of the NPC"s in the game is a subject which can be delved into in a guide all for itself, so I won"t do any more but bring up the subject while we were at it and instantly leave it here. : p

9. How I create

9. How I create

Want to know how i do it when i create characters? Sure! This is how i use the Skyrim character creation to it"s full potential. This is the difficult way.

Quick rundown of my work method,
Install Enhanced Character Edit, launch the game and open up the character creation menu. Pick a race, gender and any of the race presets or community presets (don"t forget to endorse author) and go from there.
Shape your characters face with the use of sliders and the much advanced VertexEdit 3D shaping tool, node to node. This is fun, hard work and also the most important step.
*1. The sliders role in it all is getting the right properties in value to eachother, eyes to nose and mouth, wide or narrow cheeks and chin, and more. Correspond with it as you edit or set it before previous step as you please.
*2. Looking at a reference, zooming in the camera and field of view as close as possible to the face helps be more accurate. You can also use the StopMotion feature and the by default enabled MirrorEdit feature.
*3. In VertexEdit you can choose how much of the face you want to move at once, my advice is to edit big areas first for a facial outline and use single node area to fine tune it through each millimeter. Caution: When editing the middle of the face you muse use single node area, you must not edit the middle of the face with a big area set...
*4. That"s the advice from me in how to use it and so now i"ll leave it open for you to use and find out more!
When you"re satisfied (can take days!) save the character by pressing F1 to export the CharGen. Save the preset and make a savegame too.
Now quit the game, uninstall ECE and install RaceMenu. Launch game, open up the character creation menu again, choose any race, gender, same weight (important!) and then go to the sculpt tab, use the import function to import your CharGen.
But wait, are sliders or color attributes imported with CharGen? Nope, so zero the values of all the sliders before you import simply because it"ll help you distinguish what they really do change then if you move them later.
Regardless of last step. Now import your CharGen, your character is back in action.
Now go on to edit your character further in RM, or at least add back the face tints and hair color since those aren"t transferred with CharGen either. Edit all you want.
Don"t forget to save the character preset, save the CharGen anew and save the game!
Now you have used the best of both and probably brought your character a happy birth!

It usually takes me three days to create a character this way from start to finish.

9.5.
Editing your character fleetingly.
After creating your character it is common to want an image change from time to time. Some sliders will provide quick makeovers that effectively give your character many looks. This is how i do it.

Tints:, will make you cheeky! Tintmasks are the basics of makeup, it can be very useful to apply especially at spots on the face that need more distinction or the opposite, to act as frame around an area. Copying the skin tone to the tint color and tweaking the saturation and brightness usually looks good.

War paints:, sometimes you just want a clean face, but sometimes not! Depending on the order you apply the war paints in you can overlap one war paint over the other and combine them, you can also choose transparency and let the skin show through. Some war paints have luminous properties too. It"s almost like painting!

Body tattoos (RaceMenu only):, sometimes you just want a clean body, but sometimes you want to turn it into a work of art! Like with the war paints you can apply tattoos over the body and affect their properties.

Hairstyles:, change the embodiment of even your shadow and your appeal just like that. Trying out different hairstyles and hair colors is the greatest way to change your image.

Brow types:, trimming your eyebrows once in a while isn"t too bad either. It can give your facial expression a new impression too.

Expressions:, lit up the room with your character"s facial expression, mood and emotion. There is so much you can do, like wink with one eye, or do an "Oof!", or smile... I won"t say more except recommend that you experiment around with the many sliders in this category, add them together and find a great deal of variation.

We know how to use sliders, use VertexEdit/3D Sculpt, load a preset and install plugins aswell as install body mods.

You are now ready to create! You also have my knowledge to lean on, please just ask about any step of the process in the comment section wether it be about installation or about advice how to create better.

But guess what, there are still things that can be modded. To acquire that feeling that your character behaves like "she" looks we"ll go through a bit more.

10. Animations

+ 10. Animations

Give your character new moves, graceful or masculine movements to match your characteristics,

Before we start, you"ll need FNIS to install new animations,

Must have animations in my feminine opinion,

A collection of poses for your character,

If you search "Poser Module for OSA" you"ll find a very useful tool for easily changing between poses without using a pop-up menu every time, but you"ll need OSA itself which you can download here,

11. Be your character

+ 11. Be your character

Here are mods that neither mod the body of your character or the character creation menu but rather enhance control and provides expression for the character.

There are mods out there that will allow you to turn your characters head to the direction you"re looking, or you can get facial expression for. There are also a few voice mods out there. Also a mod that will give you tongues

You can choose what voice type your character should use and also to follow bypassers with their gaze with this mod,
For when you want to grab her attention,

Get inspiration to create lore for your character here, this is not the same as ECE or RM at all despite the name,

If you want your character to stick their tongue out this is it..,

12. Character design

Unless you"re going for the Mrs. Hadaka (= nude in Japanese) look, let"s not forget that outfit is important for one"s image! I recommend that you browze the community, armors are being released pretty much every week though you"ll need to look at asian pages to find these.

You should also consider, are you going for a closet where all of your outfits are converted to your own body meshes, or are you okay with using armors that are not converted and do not fit your body? You"ll know what i mean as you try it out.

I"ll link you to my favorites,

Oops, that"s apparently my only favorite so take away the plural will you huhu? It adds an insane amount of high quality armor that we can mix and match together, and it has outfit conversion for UUNP and CBBE BodySlide preset of our choice. It"s also quite lore-friendly. Despite the name "bikini", this armor can cover skin, and defend your warrior from harm quite well. This is how it can look when i put it on.

(Nina follower by Overknee, Onean follower by Pandea)
You can also dress up followers, i love doing that.

It is really up to you to also find a favorite for yourself, it"s very fun to try out all of the armor mods that are out there so i recommend that you have fun doing it!

13. Enhance your direct surroundings

+ 13. Enhance your direct surroundings

I won"t go through how to mod the world graphics or anything, but at least we"ll go through things that revolve around your character such as lighting, immediate environment and control over your camera view and interface.

ENB, this is more or less a must have if you"re going to take screenshots to show to the community, not to mention it"s very pleasing to play with the good graphical quality that an ENB provides. But i am actually pretty bad at how to install and use ENB"s, so i"m using an early build (binary 119) since it"s easier to install the presets for that. For more information please find a different guide, there are many to choose from so i won"t dare recommend anything!

Lighting overhaul, with one of these the light can become more crisp, or the particles more detailed. There are many to choose between so have fun! Here"s just one of them all, i recommend it because it has compatibility not only with official expansion DLC"s but also with community made expansion DLC"s,

New sources of light. The location you"re in depending on interior, exterior and the lights inherently placed will usually provide you with light but sometimes you just want to place it out yourself to bring light to a dark place or control your shadows and angles so here is something for that,

Screenshot advice,
I love using this method to spice up my screenshots sometimes,

You can access the console commands with the click of buttons with this mod. Quickly enter free camera, freeze movement, hide HuD,

Good-to-know console commands for screenarchery,
TM - hide interface, be careful since wiew on the console hides too, write command again to unhide.
TFC - toggle free camera, if you use this in first person your character will disappear from view but in third person your character will stay put and visible.
TFC 1 - toggle free camera and freeze time.
SUCSM 1-50~ - while in free camera control the speed of camera movement, lower value is slower.
FOV 1-90~ - change the field of view, lower value is closer, can go closer to character without clipping by using this.
CSB - clear screen blood, remove blood stains from combat on the screen.

Pushing the UP arrow will write back what you wrote before, keep pressing to browze used commands, useful to toggle something without having to write it again.

14. Closing words

In hindsight the Skyrim character creation can be a bit more work than other character creators out there, but that"s because those are limited while Skyrim holds the potential to be what we make it. So no more limitations, let"s have fun and be who you are!

I really want to make Skyrim accessible to everyone. The character creation in this game is absolutely amazing, as i mentioned at the start i have tried it out in many games before. But it wasn"t until Skyrim that i could finally create a reflection of my own self in this fantasy world.

It took me a year of modding to grasp all of this. With this guide i hope that it will be easier for you. The Skyrim modding community kind of made me evolve in an unexpected direction, i thought character creation was silly at first, just posing and taking scenery screenshots? But now i"m the one with 10,000 screenshots on my Flickr.

But no matter how much i browzed the Skyrim community i could not find a character that would be to my taste. I wanted a small little girl that was really short, would adorn herself in a platemail dress and wear a big hammer as my character. Finding a character preset like that was difficult. So i set out to make my own, and while making my own presets i ran into so much technical trouble, just modding the game became an adventure. And finally now i feel like i have control over what i"m doing, and the quest in mastering the basics is complete! And that is why this guide is written. Now i hope you have use of it in creating whatever kind of character, in whatever kind of Skyrim you want.

With that in mind, i leave you a link to my mod where i upload character presets all for you. All because i want to contribute, make it easy to find what i thought was hard to find when i was new. Now, here is my mod with character presets which you can load in both Enhanced Character Edit or RaceMenu, enjoy!

Cherry cheers,
Deeru-hime

When you run into trouble, please show a message or data/SKSE/plugins/CharacterMakingExtender.log.

Q. It does not work.

A. Make sure to Install SKSE.
It might be overwritten when SKYRIM update or by some mods.
Let’s install SKSE, of course its “Data folder” too, again!

Q. Dose not appear additional sliders.

A. Make sure to install Data/SKSE/Plugins/CharacterMakingExtender_plugin.dll.

Q. Dose not work additional sliders

A. Make sure to activate the EnhancedCharacterEdit.esp and CharacterMakingExtender.esp in your mod launcher by checking its box.

Q. It does not work, I take a message "Cannot call Papyrus script event" in log. What do it?
A. First, make sure to activate CharacterMakingExtender.esp. Next, type below command in console.
StopQuest zzExCharGenQuest
StartQuest zzExCharGenQuest

Q. Skyrim crash on startup.

A. Does not match the version of SKSE plug-in and TESV.exe.
Or you did wrong installation. Please update TESV.exe or retry to install.

Q. Use ECE with racemenu, but some feature does not work

A. Basically, racemenu features take priority. Therefore, some ECE feature does not work.
ECE"s preset and slot do not work. Nose slider of racemenu part does not work, but nose slider of ECE part works fine.

Q. Skyrim crash on showracemenu or appear error dialog "target cache has not found.please retry.system is too heavy?".
A. Confirm whether there is an incompatible mod, or not.
Do showracemenu in a small building (Breezehome, Honeyside), never in the open space.

How to modify skeleton for apply neck and waist sliders

Required: NifSkope

Open the skeleton that you want to edit in NifSkope.
Unchecked the Auto Sanitize before Save.
Follow the hierarchy of BlockList.
skeleton female.nif -> NPC -> NPC Root -> NPC COM -> NPC Spine -> NPC Spine1 -> NPC Spine2 -> NPC Neck -> NPC Head
Click Select Node-> Attach Parent Node-> NiNode right while selecting NPC Head.
Click the icon of the Value of Name Txt where in the Block Details.
Enter "CME HeadPos" in the input field.
Hold Ctrl + down key, until set maximum number of node on the Block List. (maximum number of node: about 268)
Repeat steps 3-7 for CME Spine1, CME Spine 2. (NPC -> NPC Root -> NPC COM -> NPC Spine -> NPC Spine1 -> NPC Spine2)
Save file at the end.

Q. I want to apply these additional sliders to the additional race I use.
Most additional race mod can go with these new sliders automatically.

Create a new ini file from the text in data/meshes/CharacterMakingExtender/.
Type the following.

Example

EDID = YgNordRace, ygNordRaceVampire
SliderIni = commonTriRaces/HumanRaces_Slider.ini
Preset = YgNordPreset1.slot

EDID has to fit exactly with (EditorID appropriate tribal Race-> open in TES5Edit or CK) name of Editor ID.

※ Some additional races is not supported, which have their own morph.
Copy and paste textures from unsupport race folder to YgNord folder.
I recommend you to use YgNord. It’s easier way.

Q. I want to apply face data made by ECE sliders to NPC

You can import face morph to NPC.
※ Body sliders, hair and colors cannot be applied.

First, make face you want to transport in showracemenu. The last face you make is saved in NoseType32.
Load Skyrim.esm in CK, and save/create esp. Example Lydia.esp.
Check and make the esp “active file”, load with “CharacterMaikingExtender.esp”. In addition, load hair esp/esm if you use.
Select the actor you want to change, click the Reset All button and then select NoseType32 in the Character Gen tab.
Edit the hair and makeup in Chargen Parts tab. Click the OK after editing.
Output the actor selected to mesh with Ctrl + F4. Save it, temporarily.
If you don"t need CharacterMakingExtender.esp as master file, push the Ctrl + Delete deregistrate master in File->Data window->Parent Masters, and then load and save.
That’s all.

If you want to apply changed neck-length and head size to NPC.

If you don’t do this routine, don’t change the neck-length and head size. The position of hair will not accord with head. Be aware that head equipments won’t be in accord with head even when doing this task. Because of changing the size of mesh. If you want them to use head equipment of correct position, make a new race for it and specify its customed Skeleton.

When you want to apply the length of the neck / head size, change LipType to the 33.
You will find the hair is incorrect in the Preview.
Fixing this later by Nifskope, output the actor you selected to mesh with Ctrl + F4.
In NifSkope, open the NPC face data which is located below: Meshes/actors/character/FaceGenData/FaceGeom/
Sorting files by date is easy way to find.
Choose "Hair ~" of NiTriShape, write the value, which is twice the length of the neck (Don’t forget to write a memo of it) to Z of Translation, + 1 to the size of the head to Scale.
Right-click, Transform-> Apply the NiTriShape, and then ignore the warning click "Try anyway".
Hair ~ made to all, please save.
It will be displayed correctly.

Q. What is name slider?

For Japanese language user. It is necessary to enter a name in Japanese.

Q. How to change the maximum value of the slider

A. For people want to break through the limit even if there is risk of face collapse. If you want to doubled slider, you should select the "More sliderMax x2" in installer. Compatible with slots already saved because the difference is only the maximum value of the slider changes; however if you load an “above the limit” slot on environment that does not have doubled maximum value, it will be fixed to the maximum value of “normal limit”. Be careful when you want to publish/distribute.
If you set it manually, to .ini (any) in the meshes/CharacterMakingExtender/ the maximum value is multiplied by if you write " SliderScale =".

Known issues / bugs

Player will re-ride the horse when you load the save on the state of riding a horse. It prevents your character from blowing away (wrath of Havok bug).

Player will be forced third-person view when you load the save state on first-person view. It is in order to fix bug of incorrect scale.
